Phyllis Guy Dance Center was established in 1976 in Baton Rouge by Phyllis R. Guy. Phyllis’ credentials include 40 years of dance training including 35 years of teaching dance. This training consisted of studying with some of the finest dance teachers in Baton Rouge as well as international teachers. Her reputation for producing high quality dancers in a fun, entertaining environment is well known throughout the dancing community. Many of her students have won numerous national scholarships from the East to the West Coast. Phyllis Guy Dance Center students have won many local and national competition awards. On any given year, numerous students are on college, high school and junior high dance and cheerleading teams. Several students have become dance teachers locally and nationally. Phyllis is extremely proud of her students and their accomplishments. Phyllis is a member of several National and Chapter organizations including Dance Master of America (National 1st Vice President), Dance Educators of America, and Dixie Dance Masters (Past President). Attending conventions held by these organizations has enabled Phyllis to continually further her dance studies and knowledge, and bring back to her students the latest and most up-to-date styles in dance. Her intermediate and advance students have the opportunity to accompany Phyllis throughout the United States to these conventions during the year.

But there is more than professional credentials involved when successfully directing one of the largest dance schools in the areas for the past 35 years. Phyllis is well recognized for her loving understanding and ability to make the art of dance a fun experience that develops personal character and discipline – qualities enhancing a student’s social development year to year. Her recitals have become a Baton Rouge tradition – encompassing Broadway adaptations for children’s understanding and enjoyment. A truly fun recital!
